Juvederm Ultra XC is a dermal filler that received approval by the FDA in 2010 with a primary target of facial wrinkles and creating fuller lips. Each Juvederm Ultra XC injection starts with a gel-like water-based solution that includes Hyaluronic Acid (HA) with Lidocaine, a local Anesthesia for comfort at the injection site. The design of Hyaluronic Acid in the Juvederm Ultra XC promotes volume in the skin by targeting the tissue beneath the surface of the skin. Once Juvederm Ultra XC hits the tissue and increases the volume beneath the skin receives a filling in effect that leaves the patient with a smoother and more youthful appearance.
Preparation for the Juvederm Ultra XC procedure is minimal, with the non-invasive treatment allowing for the return to typical activities to happen immediately following the procedure. The treatment area will determine the time the method will take to complete but can take approximately one hour. Since the injection contains a local Anesthetic, a topical alternative is not required.
Your skin will require cleansing to reduce the risk of infection during the procedure, after which time the injection will be delivered to the target area for optimal appearance improvements. The patient should not have pain from the procedure but may feel subtle pressure and prickling as the injection occurs.
Juvederm Ultra XC shows visible results almost immediately with an effect that can benefit the aging appearance from six months to one year. Maintenance is required to keep this effect alive as this treatment is a temporary solution to the condition of wrinkles, smile lines, and laugh lines that plague the skin as the patient ages.
Redness, swelling, and bruising can occur after the injection, but mostly this treatment is well-tolerated, and these features do not remain visible for an extended period.
